CCM 154 Snow

Our final challenge of the year over at Crafty Cardmakers is Snow. If like me, you haven’t yet finished your Christmas card making here is an opportunity to get one more under your belt, or maybe you fancy getting a head start on 2016’s cards!

I have made my card for a neighbour who wouldn’t appreciate the humour that has gone into my card I created for most everyone else!

The background and stamp are both a free gift with Quick Cards made easy. I embossed the background onto plain white card and stamped the sentiment onto the same type of card with versamark and then embossed it with Wow sparkling powder. I wanted to have a similarly sparkly edge to the mat of both background and stamp so I cut shapes slightly smaller than the stamped panel and the background and using those shapes as a template (so I didn’t waste too much embossing powder) I went around the shape with the versamark pad onto a larger piece of card and then embossed again with the Wow powder. I trimmed it all up neatly and bingo, the mat matches the sentiment.

CCM 152 Winter Birthday

Our challenge today at Crafty Cardmakers is to create something for a Winter birthday.

152 Winter Birthday

My background was made with a Spellbinder Embossing folder

I have used a freebie image from a magazine gift, and coloured her with copics. The tree is a Marianne die and the snowflake a Magnolia Doohickey. The peel off has been in my stash for a very long time and I coloured it with the darker of the colours I used on her coat.

152 Winter Birthday inside

I created a sentiment on the computer and printed it onto safmat and then just stuck it down inside.

ABC V for Violet

Our challenge this time at ABC is V for Violet and we are sponsored by The Paper Shelter. I have used a Paper Shelter image for my card called Time For Tea.

V for Violet

I used an XCut embossing folder to create a clock background to tie in with the Time theme in the image, and also a Marianne Clock die, both of which I inked up with the same DIs. I coloured my image with copic markers, and glazed the large pocket watch face and small pocket watches in her hair, plus her glasses/goggles around her hat band.

DV 119 Shaped Cards

Our challenge today is Shaped Cards, so basically anything that is neither a square, nor a rectangle.

We are sponsored by Di’s Digistamps.

119 Shaped Card2

I used Spellbinders Grand Stately Circles, in the second and third sizes down to create my card. The larger one obviously made the base and front of my easel card and the smaller of the two the lovely engraved vellum mat.

I have a couple of friends who have December birthdays so this design would be perfect for either of them. The sentiment is a combination of Simon Says stamps dies and a Britannia die for the word Birthday. I cut this from a gorgeous K&Co pad that has been in my stash for absolutely ever, and then I used the same paper to cut some of the poinsettias, the others were from another sheet from that pad.

The boots are a Marianne die and were cut from what looked like an A4 sheet of actual metal card! The centres of the flowers were cut from the same metal sheet. Finally the stopper for the Easel was created by binding together, the leaves from a pick I bought from Hobbycraft last year, with the same glittery thread I used in the Ice Skates as it is sooooooo glittery there is no way it was gluing together, luckily this also gave an area that I could glue to adhere it to the card, with a larger poinsettia atop it. It’s designed to go in those very tall vases as a Christmas decoration, but as soon as I saw it I could see all sorts of other possibilities for it.

ABC U Unlimited

Our challenge for ABC today is U for Unlimited, or Anything Goes. We are sponsored by Magnolia-licious and my lovely butterfly die is one of the ones that they stock in the Magnolia Doohickey range. I just love the shape of it and it’s also quite a nice large die.

U Unlimited main2

I embossed a stencil (sorry for the life of me cannot remember which one) onto white cardstock and then using twisted citron and spiced marmalade and squeezed lemonade I used distress inks through the stencil. I then diecut from this piece twice to make a base for my butterfly and a top layer so he could fly. I glittered around the edge of the top layer of the butterfly.

DSCN9961a

The embossed background is from Crafters Companion’s Downton Abbey range. The ribbon and citrus coloured gems are from my stash as is the lime patterned glitter card I used as a matt for my embossed area and sentiment, which I made on my pc. The ribbon also comes from my stash.

ABC T for Two

Our challenge today at ABC is T for Two. We would like to see two of something on your creations. We are sponsored by Aurora Wings and I have used their lovely image Desert Rose for my card, and my two are two different colours.

T for Two no shimmer
I coloured her with copics and when I was finished I went over her clothes with some plain mica powder dissolved in water to give a shimmer, which I know you can’t see here so there will be another pic below with the shimmer. But this is a more accurate depiction of the actual colour. I also coloured her sword with a silver gel pen.

The background is Ripe Persimmon, and Spiced Marmalade and Dusty Concord DI’s through a Rebecca Baer Stencil called Moroccan Vine because I wanted to give the impression of an Arab Palace. The archway was actually a Tando greyboard arch, but when I had spent ages colouring my girl I realised that the arch was too big for the design. So I scanned it into my PC for the shape and then printed it smaller and cut it out. I coloured it, and the mat behind the stencilled area with Maya Gold paint in Violet. I coloured some corner and border gems to match and used the borders to adorn my archway and the corners just to finish the card. I added one small gem to her belly button!

DV #117 Halloween

We have a nice seasonal challenge at Dream Valley this time around, Halloween.

We are sponsored by Imagine That

117 Halloween 1

I have finally gotten around to using my Tim Holtz Bird Crazy Birds! They are such fun to stamp and colour and their expressions are fabulous, so I think I went a bit OTT and used too many on my card, but hey ho I was having fun. I coloured them mainly with DIs and a little touch of copics for the extra wings, etc. I do also have the Crazy Things Accessories, but as there are only three halloween ones I printed some halloween clip arts I have on my pc to supplement them. The tree is from Sheena Douglass. My paper is from Bearly Mine.

TMC 14 Wall Hanging/Tic, Tac, Toe

Our challenge for October at The Mirror Crack’d is either a Wall Hanging, or you could follow our Tic, Tac, Toe board if you don’t fancy doing a Wall Hanging. Of course, if you are feeling really clever you could combine the two! If you opt for the Wall Hanging, Centre Square, you need not do any of the rest of the board, unless you want to. In which case it would work the same as any other TTT board, across top, middle or bottom, up and down left to right or diagonally.

12039318_1625508691043702_4458594450516658195_j

I opted for a wall hanging.

Wall Hanging Complete

I used three MDF hearts from a pack of six and made a triple wall hanging. I made this as a tribute to my lovely Mum who sadly passed away in 2001.

After I gessoed them all, I painted all three with a combination of Picked Raspberry and Picket Fence Distress Paints. The light at this time of year isn’t good so you cannot see too well in the photographs the subtle differences between each heart, but each heart is a slightly different shade of pink.

Excuse the poor background in the following photographs, but again due to the light the detail of the hearts is not showing up so well on the white background picture above, but overall it looked better as a whole. I have broken them down though from a seperate set of pics taken in a different location.

Top

The top heart I stuck a band of lace across the middle, which I topped with a lovely porcelain plaque that I have had in my stash since forever. The two birds I painted with Maya Gold paint in Rose, and added some white frantage, and a pink flower. That frantage was a nightmare to heat because of the thickness of the MDF I couldn’t get it to melt from underneath and I cannot count the grains that shot off from above because everytime I got the heatgun close enough to melt it was close enough to blow the grains away. Eventually I dotted some versamark pen on this and the middle heart in order to try and hold some of the frantage to stay where I wanted it!

Middle

The middle heart has more frantage, plus two areas of texture paste which I spread through stencils I made myself from Memory Box distressed collage dies. I dusted each texture paste area with a different shade of mica powder. A light lemon at the bottom and a soft mauve at the top.

More flowers from my stash, plus two prima butterflies and a clip. The sentiment ‘Always in My Heart’ has a double meaning for me. When I was a little girl my Mum had a music box with a ballerina that danced round when you opened it to the tune of Always In My Heart. I now have that Musical Box tucked away safely.

You are always in my heart
Even though you're far away
I can hear the music of
The song of love
I sang with you
You are always in my heart
And when skies above are grey
I remember that you care
And then and there
The sun breaks through
Just before I go to sleep
There's a rendezvous I keep
And a dream I always meet
Helps me forget we're far apart
I don't know exactly when, dear,
But I'm sure we'll meet again, dear,
And my darling, till we do
You are always in my heart!

The sentiment is from Splodge Away and I painted it with the same rose coloured Maya Gold Paint as the birds in the top heart.

Bottom

The final heart I textured pasted through a stencil I created from Tim Holtz’s Mixed Media die set, and then dusted over it with a bright pink mica powder. I printed the pics of Mum from old photos after I scanned them. The one on the left she is about 18, and the one on the right she is mid fifties, and was taken on a holiday in Torquay wearing my Daughter’s straw hat! I surrounded the heart with Wild Orchid’s roses. I also added Mum, painted with rose MG Paint again. Finally there is a love heart charm dangling off the bottom.

The most difficult bit was threading the hanging thread and joining them all together!

ABC S for Sprinkles

Our challenge at ABC today is S for Sprinkles. That can be embossing powder, glitter, frantage, etc. We are sponsored by Art by Miran.

S for Sprinkles FF

I have used Petal Blossoms from our sponsor and coloured her with my copics. The papers are from a very old pad from WRMK called Tiffany, and I chose it because it was full of sparkle with glittered flowers. The sentiment is a couple of sentiments from Simon Says Stamp, and the sparkly gem I have had in my stash for a while. I coloured the edges of all the background mats by hand to match the colours in the image and then glittered them with glamour dust.

I thought it was the perfect challenge for my first Christmas Card of 2015. My image is called Silver Fairy by Wee Stamps, and I coloured her with copics, and then glittered her wings with glamour dust. I have glamour dusted my mats and the sentiment diecut as well.

The papers are Trimcraft’s First Edition Silent Night paper pad which I am pretty sure I have had for over two years now! I am determined not to buy any more papers for Christmas until I have used up the ones I already have…… that should take me a good few years!

ABC R Recipe

Our challenge today at ABC is Tic, Tac, Toe challenge, and we are sponsored by All Dressed Up.

Tic Tac Toe-001

I went down the centre line of the board for my card.

R Recipe

My image, from All Dressed Up is called ‘A Cuddle Makes It All Better’ and does come with a sentiment as part of the image saying exactly that, but before I printed the image I deleted the sentiment.

I have coloured her in with copics. My papers are from a magazine freebie from Wild Rose Studios called Bluebell, although I only had a limited set of papers in my freebie along with some decoupage. My diecuts are all Sue Wilson dies. The corner die is from the Dainty Lace Edger set, and the one surrounding the image is the Petite Arched Adornments die. The flower comes from my stash and I removed the centre, added a large blob of glue and then sprinkled with nail art micro beads which I got from Poundland!

DV 115 Autumnal Colours

Our challenge today at Dream Valley is the colours of Autumn. We are sponsored by Robyn’s Fetish and I have used their cute scarecrow image in my project.

115 Autumn Colours

I went for the often fiery red and orange hues of autumn that you see in the hedgerows and trees as the leaves start to turn, and in some of the harvest fruits, and made a background with those hues from brushos on watercolour card.

My scarecrow was coloured with copics, and his white stitching added with a Sharpie paint marker.  The quote I found online, and the die, which I sort of hoped looked a little like a corn field at harvest time although I went a bit ott with the colour, is from Sheena Douglass’ perfect partners range.

CCM 147 Floral Embellishments

Our challenge at Crafty Cardmakers today is Flower Embellishments. Whilst we are happy to see floral images on your creations, these alone do not count. You need to add either pre-made, home made or diecut flowers to your project to qualify.

147 Flower Embellishments

I started with making my own card blank from Centura Pearl Snow White card using a Go Kreate die. I also cut a smaller mat which I embossed.

The flowers themselves are stamped with Sheena Douglass’ Anenome stamps on a dotty patterned pearlised paper and then coloured with distress stains, Peacock Feathers for the Turquoise One. Picked Raspberry for the Pink One and Dusty Concord the lilac one. Have to say can’t wait to get my hands on Wilted Violet when it finally gets dispatched. I shaped them and having stuck them together added a mixture of tiny beads and Stampendous glitters. The tiny beads are in fact nail art from Poundland. I bought every pack they had in the shop!

The sentiment was printed from my pc with the addition of a Penny Black diecut word.

The mat between the embossed layer and the card back was cut from the same paper I had stamped onto and coloured with a more watered down version of Peacock Feathers to tone in. As was the ‘friends’ diecut.

Q for Queen of Hearts

I coloured her in with copics, and then dotted a sharpie paint marker in her hair, and on the heart I drew some swirls. I also added wink of stella to the heart and to the blue dots on the ends of some of her hair.

The diecuts sentiments are all from Simon Says Stamp, and were cut from holographic metallic adhesive film, and the heart is from Memory Box, heart gems from my stash.

CCM 146 No Patterned Papers

It’s my turn to host the challenge at Crafty Cardmakers this fortnight and I would love to see your creations that have no patterned paper. By that I mean not printed, nor ready made designer type papers. You can of course, make your own design, as long as it doesn’t involve printing I guess!

Anyhow mine came about as a result of a mistake with something else I was trying to create. I have these brushos, but quite frankly I am not good at getting the results other people seem to get. I seem to be either too heavy handed with them, or not enough of them on the background. Also because you have to spritz the card to get them to move and then you risk your card being all buckled perhaps I don’t start off with enough dampness to the card. So I did this sheet, trimmed up in the photo below, but realised that yet again it was to dern busy and that any image or focal point would be lost against it because of their being so much diverse spread of colour.

DSCN9166

I was about to bin it when I had a brainwave (yes I know it’s rare my brain is even firing on half a cylinder let alone having a ‘wave’.

I have a few of those gorgeous Memory Box Open Studio dies that are designed to cut a slightly distressed looking pattern into your cardstock and I just placed it up to the messy background and liked the look of what peeked through. The white from the cardstock really broke up the mess, and made it fairly attractive.

146 No Patterned Papers

I repeated the pattern in the opposite diagonal corner, and then stuck it down, before matting both sheets onto some blue cardstock, which I also diecut a greeting from.

My image is from Morgan Fitzsimmons and I coloured her with copics and also some prismacolours. I glittered her wings and the butterflys.

I have to be honest here, when I was sticking down the diecut card some of the pigment on the background had not been dampened and as a consequence there were flecks of pigment dust left on the card and some of these transferred to my white cardstock, leaving a couple of mucky marks so I had to put my image at more jaunty an angle than I really wanted to and also add a few mauve gems to one side to cover it!

So if you fancy copying with any brusho disasters of your own, give them a good dusting first to make sure you have dislodged all the dry pigment that hasn’t melded itself into the card.

Our challenge at Dream Valley this time around is to ‘add a charm’. We are sponsored by Di’s Digistamps.

 DV 113 Charm

My image is from Darcy’s Diaries, but sadly they are a digital stamp company that appears to be no more!

Anyhow I coloured her with copics and prismacolours, in lush citrus lime and purple. My papers are from First Edition’s Spring Drop, and the diecut sentiment is from Penny Black, which is my newest die. I love the font on this. Star charm and glass pearls from deep in my stash and top diecut is a Memory Box one. It’s meant to be a ribbon slider, but I covered the centre with a huge dazzler.
