CCM 115 - It’s A Bug’s Life (Insect as your Main focal point)

Our challenge at Crafty Cardmakers for the next couple of weeks is It’s A Bug’s Life. So we would like to see your main focal point as an insect, so butterfly, dragonfly, ladybird, bee etc.

We are sponsored both by Hobby Art Stamps with a gorgeous butterfly stamp sheet and also by Di’s Digistamps with £12 to spend in their lovely digi store.

CCM 115 Bug's Life

I started with a blank sheet of white card and with a clarity stencil and dylusions inks I created the background. I then stamped a huge (6”) butterfly from Elusive Images, now Chocolate Baroque, onto white card with versamark and embossed in white detail powder. I sprayed over it with more dylusions, and gave a swift wipe to remove the excess ink from the embossing as that, of course, repels the ink. When it was dry I added Glamour Dust to make the butterfly sparkle.

The Happy Birthday sentiment I diecut from the waste card and overspill of the orange spray at the bottom of the stencil.

I can see from the amount of bleed that has gone under the stencil that I need something to really stick the stencil to the card, so I have ordered some Stencil Tack and I will report back if it works without tearing the card, because quite frankly I used the guaranteed not to tear Imagination Crafts stencil tape and it ripped the card to shreds!  It also only held the stencil firmly in place around the outside, so would really only have been useful, had it worked, in protecting the edges!

I am entering this into the following:-

Lexi’s Creations 115 – For the Man in your Life

Our challenge at Lexi’s Creations this time is ‘for the man in your life’ and we are sponsored by Fairy Dust Crafts.

I don’t have a man in my life, boohoo, or actually HOORAY! Anyhow I made this comic card for my Sister to give to her husband who is a bit older than her! I hope he has a sense of humour still.

115 Lexi Man in Your Life

The papers were freebies from a magazine, and I thought the pink one looked a little like love letters. The image is from Inky Doodles and the sentiment, well I created that myself on my pc.

I was going to make a sentiment about the oldest ‘swinger’ in town, but since my youth that expression has taken on a whole other meaning! Do the Brits remember the song Oldest Swinger in Town by Fred Wedlock….. well that was going through my mind as I coloured this image!

When you score with a chick in a disco bar
take her home in your hairy little car
then you find you went to school with her ma and pa
You’re the oldest swinger in town,
and you wont look in a mirror in the light of day
swear you died it when your hair turns grey
when you zip up your wranglers and your belly's in the way
Your the oldest swinger in town.

Here you come and there you go
wide wheels, spots and a stereo
but the engine's clapped and the driver also
is the oldest swinger in town.

When your barber takes a little less time each week
the kids don't understand a word you speak
when you walk into a disco and they offer you a seat
You're the oldest swinger in town.
You prefer a pint of mild to bacardi and coke
the sounds are too loud and there's too much smoke
You'd like another dance but you're scared you'll have a stroke
You're the oldest swinger in town.

Here you come with your chest all bare
a little gold ingot and a lot of gold hair
like the Disco King meets Yogi Bear
You're the oldest swinger in town.

When your feelin as stiff as a skin heads boot
rub on Vick where you used to splash Brut
and the latest punk fashion is your weddin' suit
You're the oldest swinger in town.

When you have to go shopping for your sex appeal
Travolta shades and nine inch heels
they say a man is just as old as the woman he feels
You're the Oldest Swinger in Town.

Here you come with your lips closed tight
you never smile you know it wouldn't look right
'cos your dentures glow in ultra violet light
You're the oldest swinger in town
And you look so mean cos your pants are too tight
You're the Oldest swinger in Town
And it takes you all night to do what you used to do all night
You're the oldest swinger in town

And for those of you who never heard it before

here you go

Hobbycutz 44 CAS

Hi everyone, hope you have all had a good Easter and haven’t eaten too many choccie treats. Personally I have been on a healthy eating regime and haven’t had one chocolate egg! On the plus side, I lost 5lbs this week. Hooray!

Anyhow enough of me and my double chins. Our challenge at Hobbycutz this time is Clean and Simple, and we are sponsored by the Hobbycutz store itself. They have such fabulous lazer cuts, and I have used one on my card.

HC 44 CAS Angle

I painted it in white, and then went over in gold paint. I still wasn’t satisfied that it looked gold enough though so I finally went over it in Pebeo gold gilding wax. The bird was coloured with promarkers over the top of the gold paint. So he has a sort of golden glow to him.

The paper is from Craftwork Cards’ Botanica kit, and 8x8 pad which I trimmed down to fit the smaller 6” square card. The top of it has gone through my Happy Cut with an Embossabilities embossing folder, and then I dusted distress ink over the top to pick up the embossed detail, in this case a script folder. The sentiment is from the same Botanica kit.

I am entering this into the following:-

ABC Just as you Like {Anything Goes}

At ABC for the next couple of weeks you can enter anything you like as our challenge is Just as you Like, or anything goes.

We are sponsored by Marianne Design with a prize of two lots of dies (see blog for more details) and also by The Ribbon Girl with a £10 voucher for their store.

J Just As You Like

I created my card with an Imagination Crafts stencil, Bay Leaf, and their sparkle mediums in four different colourways, onto plain black card. This has been matted onto some paper I had printed, but no idea where it was from, but possibly Bearly Mine, and then onto white and more black card! The butterflies are from one of our Sponsors, Marianne Design and the purple dots are card candi from Craftwork Cards. This is a nice flat one to foil the Post Office’s higher rate, although I prompty put it all on an 8” card which defeated the object, lol!

I am entering this into the following:-

Bearly Mine Challenges – April: Spring
Craft It Up & Link It Up Linky Party – #29 Colour Inspiration
Crafts Galore Encore – Creating with Colour (my favourite is purple!)
Crafty Boots – Sparkle
Crafty Calendar – Things With Wings
Fairytale Challenge – #89 Butterflies
Imagination Crafts – April: Anything Goes
Shelley’s Images – April Showers Bring May Flowers
Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge – Winged Things
Sparkles Monthly Challenge – #55 Favourite Colour Combo (purple and teal)

CCM 114 A Floral Profusion–Handmade Flowers

Our challenge over at Crafty Cardmakers this time around is handmade flowers. One would do, but a profusion of them would be even better!

We are sponsored by Crafty Sentiments with three images from their online digi store.

If you pop over to the Crafty Cardmakers blog you can see the Design Team’s work, some of which feature the Crafty Sentiments images.

For myself I just decided to go down the floral wreath path, and made a nice summer wreath to brighten things up in my dull looking craft room. My bungalow is positioned very badly and I only get sun in here for about 1-2 hours a day early in the morning. The rest of the time it’s actually rather gloomy in here. My kitchen, on the other hand, where you don’t want to spend most of your time is sunny and bright for most of the day! Strangely laid out bungalow methinks. I bet it was designed by a man!

114 Floral Profusion Main

I used a flower kit from Craftwork Cards, but added my own diecut and rolled flowers to the centre of the flowers I made from the kit. I also added some of my own ribbons to the wreath background and diamante gems to the centre of each flower. Before attaching the flowers and adding the gems I sprayed them with Crafters Companion spray and sparkle, but it’s not really showing here!

You can see it a little in the close up of the flower below.

Hobby Cutz 42 Flora and Fauna

The challenge at Hobby Cutz this week is Flora and Fauna, and we are sponsored by Crafty Sentiments. I have used a Crafty Sentiments image from the Benson Bear range on my card.

42 Flora and Fauna

I coloured Benson with my copics, and added some glitter to his flower and also to the edge of the diecut mat that he is printed on.

The papers are from KaiserCraft’s Chanteuse Paper pad, and the ribbon and flower (Prima) are from my stash. The gorgeous swirls are lazer cuts from Hobby Cutz. I know I am on the team, but they truly are excellent value for money as I had these in my stash from before I was picked for the DT. Beautiful intricate designs and very reasonably priced.

I realise I have obscured quite a bit of the lovely lazer cut so here is a pic from Hobby Cutz’ website of the scroll in all it’s glory….. 4 in the pack for £1.35!!!

Note to self, next time use smaller flower!!

ABC I In a Line

We have a Tic, Tac, Toe type challenge at ABC this time.

We are sponsored by Sherri Baldy.

ABC In A Line

I is for In A Line

I used the left hand vertical line for my card, shaped card, distressing and pearls.

My card is cut from a Dutch Doobaboo template, along with the patterned papers, which came free with a magazine. The image is from our Sponsor and I coloured her with copics. I distressed my card and also my papers and inked around the edge of them with a pigment inkpad. I used the same inkpad on my diecut mat from Spellbinders. The pearls were white and I coloured with the one of the pens I used in the image to make them pink.

I am entering this into:-

CCM 113 You’ve Been Framed

Jackie is hosting our challenge at Crafty Cardmakers this time around, and she has chosen the theme 'You've Been Framed'. She would like to see a prominently displayed frame on your project, this can be stamped, die cut, or made up of other materials, or you could decorate an actual frame.

We are sponsored by Sir Stampalot with three fabulous prizes which are frame related. Pop on over to the Crafty Cardmakers  blog to check them out. We are also sponsored by Di’s Digistamps with a generous $12 gift voucher for her store.

Time ran away from me in the last couple of weeks because I fully intended to make a frame and decorate it, but instead I have ended up with a card.

113 You've Been Framed

I have used an All Dressed Up digi and coloured her with copics. The background paper is from Bearly Mine from their new Mixed Media pack! Very pretty. The frame is a Tonic Frame die called Emily. The butterfly and dragonflies are Doo Hickey diecuts. I added a little glitter to her wings with my favourite glitter, glamour dust, and the diecuts butterfly and dragonflies and also to her hair ribbon
